CUMBERLAND — Stephanie Sine, a meteorologist at WHAG-TV in Hagerstown for nearly three years, has joined the weather team at WCSC, Live 5 News, in Charleston, South Carolina, a CBS affiliate. “I’m still getting messages from people wondering where I am,” she said. “They think I’m on vacation or something.” Her last day in the Hub City was Sept. 23. Service was interrupted in Cumberland that day, she said, so some residents missed her final broadcast. Her colleagues announced it was her last day and bade her farewell. “I miss working in Hagerstown. I miss the viewers and am happy they tuned in for me,” said the Cumberland native, who is an Allegany High School alumna and graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

She began her duties in Hagerstown in November 2013 and within weeks was forecasting severe weather, including a polar vortex that put the region in a wintry deep freeze. She arrived for her new job in South Carolina in the middle of Hurricane Matthew on Oct. 7, when the station was providing 24-hour coverage of the storm. “It was an interesting first few days,” she said. “I actually slept at the station because power was out at my apartment and the roads were flooded.” She is on the air Saturday and Sunday mornings and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Sine said it’s a great group of people to have as co-workers. “Two of the anchors have over 40 years’ experience. I have great respect for that,” she said. “I’m learning a lot.”

The population in the Charleston area is growing in leaps and bounds. “You see moving vans everywhere, and the traffic is crazy. In the two months or so since I’ve been here, I have heard from two families from the Hagerstown area who have moved here,” she said. “I’ve kept in touch with a lot of my weather watchers from WHAG through email, so if anyone wishes to reach out, my work email is [email protected] I would love to hear from the 4State viewers.”
