Patti Scialfa Bio

Patti Scialfa (Vivienne Patricia Scialfa) is an American singer-songwriter and also a guitarist. She has been a member of the E Street Band since the year 1984. Back in 2014, Scialfa was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the members of the E Street Band.

Patti Scialfa And Bruce Springsteen

Scialfa and Bruce Springsteen first met at the Stone Pony, a New Jersey bar, in the early 1980s. Though at first Scialfa was not willing, she later joined the 1984 Born In The USA tour, thereby postponing the recording of a solo record. Soon after the tour, Scialfa began a short-term relationship with actor Tom Cruise.

In the spring of 1988, Springsteen who was then married divorced his then-wife, named Julianne Phillips, then started living together with Scialfa shortly afterwards. Springsteen and Phillips’ divorce ended in 1989. Scialfa and Springsteen first lived in New Jersey together, relocating later to New York for a short time before they could move to Los Angeles where they started a family together.

On July 25, 1990, Scialfa gave birth to their firstborn child, named Evan James Springsteen. They then tied a knot together on June 8, 1991, at their Los Angeles home in a ceremony which was attended by family and close friends. Their second child, Jessica Rae Springsteen, arrived on December 30, 1991, while their third child, named Samuel Ryan Springsteen, was born on January 5, 1994.

The family later moved back to New Jersey in the early 1990s and now living in Colts Neck, New Jersey. The couple also owns homes in Rumson, New Jersey, Wellington, Florida, near West Palm Beach, and also in Los Angeles.

Scialfa grew up in the Jersey Shore community of Deal, New Jersey, United States. She was the middle child of Joseph Scialfa, her father and Patricia (née Morris) Scialfa, her mother. Back then, her father was of Sicilian ancestry and her mother is from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Patti also has half-siblings from her father’s second marriage. Her father was also a successful local entrepreneur, who began with a single television store becoming a real estate developer.

Scialfa attended Asbury Park High School graduating in 1971. Scialfa was writing songs from while she was still young and first worked professionally as a back-up singer for New Jersey bar bands after completing high school.

Later in 1994, she stated in a Lear’s Magazine interview that she had some talent for anything but music and that she went to college as a way to further her ambitions as a performer while still satisfying parental expectations. Scialfa has a music degree from New York University, attained after she transferred from the University of Miami’s jazz conservatory at the Frost School of Music.
