Mitch Brown biography

Mitchell Brown was born on 28 August 1990 is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Essendon football club in the Australian football league (AFL), having previously played for Geelong between 2009 and 2014.

Brown was selected by Geelong with their first-round selection (15th overall) in the 2008 AFL, after originally not being considered by most as a top-20 selection. He had previously been playing with the Cheltenham Panthers and the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup. He was originally not selected by the dragon until he had a growth spurt and performed well for his school, Mentone grammar school. He has also represented Victoria at junior levels.

Brown broke his leg in a VFL practice match and missed the 2009 season. Injuries wrecked his time at the Geelong and eventually brown was delisted at the conclusion of the 2014 AFL season. In February 2015, brown given a short-term contract by Essendon to play in the 2015 NAB challenge as a’ top-up’ player, due to 19 Essendon players withdrawing from the NAB challenge, playing as a key defender.

Brown was so impressive during his NAB challenge stint and his VFL season, that he was drafted with pick 54 to Essendon for the 2016 AFL season onwards. Brown played 13 games in the 2010 season, being dropped three times. He played in the forward line for much of the first of the season but was in and out of form. He found a role as the eagle’s center half-back towards the end of the season, becoming one of their better players in defense before his season was ended by a groin injury.

He has a twin brother who played for the west coast Eagles, Nathan Brown and an older brother named Cameron. As a child, Mitch was a Carlton Collingwood, while his twin brother was supporter Collingwood.

Brown was is a former student of St Patrick’s College, Ballarat, and was part of their 1st XVIII that won the coveted herald shield cup in 2005. Tall and mobile, brown is a former basketballer who converted to football recently and has been earmarked for the center halfback, following some well-acclaimed performances for Vic county in 2006 under 18 national championships.
