In 1989, he began his TV career at a place known as Telemundo, as a Spanish language reporter where he received his first Emmy Award nomination for a series chronicling the AIDS Crisis in America. He also joined South Florida’s ABC station of WPLG in 1990 as a reporter and later becoming weekend after scoring a coveted interview with Cuban President Fidel Castro. Aguirre left South Florida for Hollywood to become a correspondent for EXTRA. It led to the spot as a lead correspondent for A CURRENT AFFAIR. Which was later appointed as the first co-host for FNC’s morning news show of FOX and FRIENDS.
He voiced Cortez Chavez and the minor character Adrian in Funcom’s The Longest Journey adventure game in 1999. In 2003, he returned to South Florida as WSVN’s entertainment reporter and anchor for Deco Drive which is the station’s widely popular entertainment show. He won his first Emmy Award in 2004 for his special report of Miracles in the Making.
In 2005 he was elected as South Florida’s American Idol insider since 2004. It was for his insight and commentary during each American Idol season. He will be leaving the show and heading to Los Angeles in California on August 22, 2014, to further his career after Louis announced on Deco Drive with his co-host Lynn Martinez.
On September 9, 2014, he replaced Kevin Frazier as the co-host of The Insider alongside Thea Andrews. In September 2017 the assignment ended up when the show was canceled after a run of 13 years. He quickly relocated back to South Florida, returning to WPLG to anchor the newscast and serve as a reporter for the 11 p.m shows.
